What an event we have planned for you! Spend a day with Award Winning, International Educator and Portrait Artist Judy Host, learning how to create beautiful portraits using a Lensbaby to add a bit of flare to your imagery.

Don’t know what Lensbaby is? It’s a creative effects lens system made up of interchangeable lens bodies, optics and accessories that help you get infinite creative looks in camera. Most Lensbaby lenses bend – so you simply tilt the lens to a desired angle then focus with a manual-focusing ring. While Lensbaby is best known for creating images with a “sweet spot” of focus surrounded by blur, there are several different optics that can be used with the lens, from the selective focus Sweet 35 and Edge 80 Optics, to Soft Focus and Fisheye optics.

The lens bodies which house the optics – the most popular being the Composer Pro, are available in mounts for Canon EF (EOS), Nikon F, Sony Alpha A / Minolta Maxxum, Pentax K / Samsung GX / Sigma SD, Olympus 4/3 cameras as well as the Micro 4/3rds, Sony NEX and Samsung NX mirrorless cameras.

The Composer Pro, which is the lens we’ll be using for this event, has a Double Glass Optic already installed. The double glass optic provides a tack-sharp sweet spot of focus surrounded by blur, with minimum diffusion at all aperture settings.

Whether it is landscapes or portraiture, wildlife or nature, it’s time to envision yourself doing something you haven’t done in a long time or ever. You may be reinventing yourself or coming into your creative self for the first time. This process is about creating a new look and style to your work and expressing the passion that drives you to continue to raise your work to another level.

The Full Day Workshop
First, we’ll meet at the entrance to the Dallas Arboretum no later than 8:45am. Our program will begin at 9am with a classroom session in Rosine Hall which includes a demonstration on how a Lensbaby works. During this morning session, Judy will also show you samples of her portfolio of Lensbaby images to give you some inspiration of what can actually be done using this wonderful lens and some of its accessories. As an attendee, you will automatically be entered in a drawing to win a FREE Lensbaby Composer Pro! Judy will draw the winning name and award the Lensbaby before we depart Rosine Hall for our afternoon of photography. There will be plenty of time for Questions & Answers, as well as the opportunity to enjoy a catered box lunch.

After lunch, students are invited to go freely throughout the Arboretum and photograph for the remainder of the afternoon until 4pm. Judy will be on hand, along with our Lensbaby Rep, Ric Samuels, and Arlington Camera Staff to help you get started and create wonderful portraits.

The Loaner Lensbaby Composer Pro
The loaner Lensbaby products will be distributed during the morning session. We will have a selection of Lensbaby Composer Pros available, but must know what type of camera you will be using when you make your reservation for this event. Also, to secure the correct loaners for everyone, you MUST reserve your spot by Saturday, July 20th. When the Composers are loaned out at the Arboretum, we will require your valid driver’s license as a security deposit. Your license will be returned to you when you return the Lensbaby to us.

The $30 Credit
Lensbaby products will be available for purchase throughout the day. As an attendee, you will receive a $30 credit towards that purchase, should you decide to take advantage of this offer from Arlington Camera.

The Photo Contest
The Dallas Arboretum offers many opportunities for amazing photography. You are welcome to enter any unretouched image you take using a Lensbaby during this event in our Lensbaby Photo Contest. You will be given detailed instructions for entering the contest before you leave.
